Escape Velocity Cycling Club is a Vancouver-based cycling club that sponsors a youth development program (dEVo) and puts on a large number of grass roots road races in the Lower Mainland. Our youth development program has started numerous young riders along their cycling career. Our Spring Series and Summer Criterium Series provide about half of the road racing in the Lower Mainland.

Job Description

The EV Race Series Organizer will be responsible for the overall planning and scheduling of the weekend road races that Escape Velocity will run in 2013. There will be between 12 to16 days of racing, starting with the traditional Spring Series in March, an additional series of 3-5 races in April, May and June, and possibly a Summer Stage race on the BC Day long weekend in August.

Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to:

• finalizing race schedule for 2013 prior to February 1, 2013
• confirming race locations with permitting authorities
• creating Traffic Control Plans for races
• obtaining all required insurance, sanctions, and permits from Cycling BC and municipalities
• entering into required contracts for services
• working with Race Directors to finalize race details

The EV Race Series Organizer may optionally also assume the role of Race Director for any/all races and be remunerated accordingly.

Knowledge and Skills

Must have experience in organizing sporting events, and dealing with regulatory and permit authorities.

Remuneration

Remuneration will be based on a fee per organized race. An additional sum is paid for each race if the Organizer also acts as Race Director.

It is strongly suggested that the Race Organizer have use of a vehicle. If the applicant intends to also act as Race Director, a vehicle capable of towing a trailer containing race equipment is a must. Travelling expenses will be compensated.
