In a little over a week, two new cyclosportive rides will be inaugurated in the greater Québec City and Montréal areas, on September 12th and 14th respectively. Cyclists have until September 10th to register for the first edition of the La Québécoise and La Montréalaise Cyclos. These recreational events are on the select list of "Grandes Classique" rides in Québec, sanctioned by the Québec Cycling Federation.

They are the only cyclosportives in the Americas to be presented in conjunction with UCI WorldTour professional cycling races, specifically the Québec City and Montréal Grands Prix Cyclistes. Around Québec City, whether riding the 85 kilometre rural circuit to Île d’Orléans and back or tackling the challenging loop of 140 kilometres (and an elevation difference of nearly 2,000 metres) north to Stoneham, entrants just might find themselves sharing the roads with ProTeams on training rides. They'll also have a one-of-a-kind, up-close vantage point from which to watch the Challenge Sprint Pro on Thursday, starting at 4:00 p.m., in the heart of the Cyclists' Village. The La Québécoise Cyclo gets underway on Grande Allée, in Place George V across from the Armoury, at 7 a.m. (140 kilometres) and 9 a.m. (85 kilometres).

Two days later, on the South Shore of Québec's largest city, the splendid late-summer landscapes of the Montérégie will welcome riders on the 90 kilometre (Circuit du paysan) and 155 kilometre (Covey Hill) loops. Participants in the La Montréalaise Cyclo will set out at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. from magnificent André J. Côté Park in Candiac, with its unbeatable view of the Montréal skyline. Performances of Carolyne Drolet (La Voix television show) and jazz group Masson Stomp will provide entertainement as the cyclists complete their ride.

A number of celebrities have accepted the organizers' invitation to ride in these inaugural Cyclos. Actor Sébastien Delorme, journalist Carl Larouche, and media hosts Andrée Martin and Claude Thibault, to name a few, will join the La Québecoise peloton. Riders in La Montréalaise, meanwhile, will pedal alongside Candiac Mayor Normand Dyotte, Olympic kayaker Hugues Fournel, actor Sébastien Delorme, TV host Yvan Martineau and many more.

All cyclists entered will also have the satisfaction of knowing they are pedaling for a good cause. Since August 1st, the organizers have been donating $20 per rider registration to the Fonds Avenir Lac-Mégantic, along with an amount of $5,000 already donated. Volunteers from the Red Cross will be on the sites of the Cyclos and the Grands Prix Cyclistes to collect donations from spectators.
