Steve Bauer will share his expertise and leadership to develop a full program of track cycling at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre, ranging from introductory track cycling programs to more structured training sessions for all ages and abilities. The Milton Cycling Academy will play a key role in engaging participation of new cyclists in the community and the province as well as supporting a talent pool of athletes focused on their long-term athletic development. The ultimate goal of aspiring young athletes would be to transition into high performance international competition with Cycling Canada.

“We are pleased to welcome Steve to our staff as he launches the Milton Cycling Academy,” said Jennifer Reynolds, the Town’s Director of Community Services. “As the opening of the Mattamy National Cycling Centre approaches later this year, we are beginning to put the pieces in place to build a thriving culture of cycling in our community.”

“I am very keen to lead the direction of the Milton Cycling Academy and I am excited to have a role in building a foundation for cycling through the programs within the academy,” said Steve Bauer, Head Coach, Milton Cycling Academy. “The opportunity to develop long-lasting synergies for our sport within the community of Milton, the province of Ontario and Canada is in front of us, and the vision for the sport of cycling in Canada is brighter than ever before.”

"We are pleased that Steve Bauer has taken on the role of leading the Milton Cycling Academy as Head Coach.  This role is formative in the initial development of programs and athletes that will move through the system and some day represent Canada at the highest levels,” said Greg Mathieu, Chief Executive Officer / Secretary General of CyclingCANADACyclisme.  “Steve's vast experience matched with his passion for the sport will benefit riders at all levels. Our national coaching staff looks forward to working with Steve in the development of our next wave of great Canadian track cyclists."

As the Head Coach of the Milton Cycling Academy, Mr. Bauer will implement the technical direction that will lead to the development of a Milton-based cycling club and a full program of track cycling at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre. He will also work closely with Town of Milton staff to ensure that a range of introductory programs are offered, including recreational program development/delivery and race night hosting.
