January 5/15 15:18 pm - Track Nationals: Beveridge & Veal Lead Omnium Heading Into Final Event

Posted by Editor on 01/5/15

After the fourth and fifth events of the Omnium at the Canadian Track Nationals in Milton, Ontario, Allison Beveridge (Trek Red Truck) leads the women's standings and Ed Veal (Real Deal Racing) leads the men.

Beveridge has a 14 point lead over Steph Roorda (Team BC) and Jamie Gilgan (Team Ontario) as they go into the final events in this evening's session - the Points Race.  Missing from the standings is Jasmin Glaesser (Team BC), who had been in second after Day 1.  Glaesser did not start today due to illness.

"I wasn't sure what to expect," admitted Beveridge.  "After Christmas everyone is carrying different form, so it can be interesting.  But I managed to come out on top in a couple of races so it is a good position to be in.  It's a little nerve-wracking [going into the Points Race] with the new format, but it makes people race.  So it's still anyone's game."

In the men's standings, Ed Veal continues to lead Remi Pelletier Roy in the overall standings after the Flying Lap.  The gap between the two riders remains at six points (174 points to 168), as the pair swap finishing positions in events four and five.

Separate national titles were also awarded for the 1000 metre time trial (men) and 500 metre time trial (women), with Joakim Albert (Equipe de Quebec) winning the men's title and Monique Sullivan (Team PCL) taking her third title of these Nationals for the women.
