The coronavirus - which was upgraded to a pandemic by the World Health Organization earlier today - continues to affect cycling schedules, with the Endurance World Series (EWS) the latest to announce rescheduling of events.  The first two rounds have been postponed to November, with Manizales, Colombia, moving to November 7-8 and Farellones, Chile, to November 14-15. Round 3 in Montagnes du Caroux, France, is still scheduled for May 23rd.

Chris Ball, Managing Director and Founder of EWS, said in a statement, "In order to best protect all staff, riders, fans and act in the most responsible way possible in the world's current situation, we have made the decision to postpone our first two rounds. We hope the early decision of this date change helps to remove stress from a situation that is causing us all a great deal of difficulty. We look forward to getting our season started in May and thank all of our partners and staff for their support in these challenging times."

Other events postponed or cancelled include the opening round of the Mountain Bike World Cup (no replacement date at this point), Sea Otter (moved to October), and a number of Italian WorldTour events, including Milan San Remo and Tirreno Adriatico (although the almost complete shutdown of Italy has made all events moot).

So far, there have been no cancellations in Canada, including the opening round of the Canada Cup Mountain Bike Series at Bear Mountain, on March 28th.
