New National Jersey a Hit

After nearly 300 votes cast over two days, the results are clear - the new national team jersey design is well liked, with over 70% of voters in our survey expressing approval (see results Here). Ed. Note: Given how cyclists have trouble agreeing on most things, this represents overwhelming support...

We had a chance to get some of the details on how the jersey was selected from Kris Westwood, Director of High Performance Programs at the Canadian Cycling Association. When the CCA signed their sponsorship agreement with Louis Garneau Sports, part of the agreement was a new jersey design. Garneau and the CCA made it a contest for the designers, with the winning designer receiving a trip for two to the Road Worlds in Salzberg, Austria. The winning designer was Claudine Gingras.

Seven designs were submitted for the final decision, and they were circulated to the 87 members of the national team, who voted for the winning design - an excellent way to decide which would winning, since these are the people who will wear the jersey as they represent Canada.

"I think this is an indication of how our organization has become more open" commented Westwood.

For the trivia buffs: Greg Reain has become the last rider to wear the old design while representing Canada, while Zach Bell will be the first to wear the new design when he rides the Pursuit at the Commonwealth Games next month.
