Québec Track Championships

The new Bromont velodrome will hold on October 3rd and 4th its first official competition with the 1998 Québec Track Championship.

The late availability of the track (mid-August) did not allow time to hold a normal track program, however, next season a full program, including track school and weekly competitions, will begin.

The Québec Track Championship was been postponed to early October to allow the new riders to get use to track riding and to the old "trackies" to adapt to this "Madison racing" type of track.

The lack of experience of the riders has led the organizers to put emphasis on individual events like the kilo, sprint and individual pursuit, but the championship program will still end with the Points Race on Sunday afternoon.

Comments about track ridability have been positive so far. Commonwealth Team athletes like Lori Ann Munzer, Lyne Bessette and Annie Gariepy were the first Canadian Team athletes to use the Bromont velodrome for training.

The leaders of the Canadian Cycling Training Center of Bromont hope this is just the beginning of a series of performances attained by high performance athletes using the Bromont facilities like the velodrome.
