July 9th

Robin Baillie (+HR Block) won the Blizzard Road Championship trophy, Sunday, by winning the 70 km road race in a time of 2:04:35 hours. Pat Ferris edged out Tim Gladysz for second at 2:11:46. Rod Lewis beat Les Elliot and Roger St. Jean for 4th at 2:13:03.

Twenty Four riders came out to the Cecil Lake, Golatta Creek road circuit under very warm conditions. The pack soon melted down to Robin Baillie, Pat Ferris and Tim Gladysz. Baillie pulled away at the 50 km mark to come in for the easy win.

David Ferris won the sprint for 7th over Terry Stone, Jolea Bilodeau and Barb Polehoykie at 2:17:15. Joseph Gladysz and Sam Keats came in at 2:44:49 and Owen Giebelhaus had 3:05:00 with a couple of flat tires.

Calvin Bell edged out Floyd Polehoykie to win the 35 km. distance with a time of 1:19:12. Tania Bell was third at 1:21:46 and Suzi Bach 4th at 1:29:20. Cayle Bell came in at 1:45:16, Dawn Gladysz 1:48:14, Steve Sparling and Sam Sparling 1:49:16 and Pat Andrews 1:51:30. Two riders did not finish.

Wim Kok completed the VanIsle 1200km ultra-marathon on Vancouver Island. It took him 51 hours to go from Victoria to Port Hardy and return.

Two Blizzard triathletes are doing the Desert Half Ironman in Osoyoos. Their results were not available at press time.

Coming up:
-Sunday is a Grande Prairie ˆ Nordic Trails Challenge Cup mountain bike race at 2 pm.

July 13th

Bob Andrews won his second race of the season, Thursday, with a win in the Baldonnel 16 km time trial. Bob had a time of 26:50 minutes, twenty seconds faster than second place Pat Ferris. Les Elliot was third with 27:45. Terry Stone was 4th at 28:24 and Richard Wood 5th at 28:43.

Eric Snucins was 6th at 28:48, Joseph Gladysz 29:25, Jolea Bilodeau 29:35, Gord Harris 30:08, Barb Polehoykie 30:18, Sam Keats 30:23, Ken Nix 30:48, Owen Giebelhaus 31:23, Marie Young 32:46 and Floyd Polehoykie 35:04.

Robin Baillie won the 8 km with a record setting 9:47. Dawn Gladysz was second at 16:53 and Pat Andrews third at 18:37.

Coming up:

-Challenge Cup Mountain bike race in Grande Prairie, Sunday, at 2 pm. Venue is the excellent Nordic Trails Park.
