Silver for Canada at IPC Worlds
Québec's Stéphane Côté and Pierre-Olivier Boily took the silver medal at the paralympic cycling road race on Monday, to conclude the Worlds event on a fantastic note for Canada.
The Québec tandem was as close as 35 seconds from the victory earned by Poland and succeeded in placing second. Côté and Boily managed to escape the peloton at 2 km from the finish, while eventual winners were in a breakaway.
"The men's tandem was a fantastic race with all three of our teams placing in the top ten. With Stéphane and PO (Pierre-Olivier), who came in second, Canada earned silver, that's right SILVER!" said CCA's National Paralympic Team Manager Larry McDougall just after the race.
Brian Cowie and Devon Smibert (AB) were 8th, 38 seconds back, followed by Gene Della Siega (BC) and Craig Deveer (ON), also at 38 seconds back for 12th place.
The tandem Shawn Marsolais and Clare Cameron (BC) narrowly escaped a spectacular crash in the women's 69.6 km race and finished 7th, at approximately 2 minutes back.
Calgary's Lisa Stowe (AB) was 6th in the Women's 58-km LC 1.
Jean Quévillon (QC) and Brayden McDougall (AB)'s CP 3 road race was 46.4 km long and they were both involved in a sprint for secnd place, where they finished 7th and 9th respectively.
