The Challenge

Team Oryx is planning a full assault of cross nats with Eric Tourville (1995 Nat Mtb Champ), myself (96 cross champ), and the newly acquired Paul Spaddacini (seasoned euro cross rider) all planning on attending. Those of us from up north are looking forward to the battle with southern Ontario and other parts of the country.


Ontario Track League

As promised to riders and interested parties at the end of the 1998 season, there will be a meeting of the Ontario Track League (Sub Committee of the OCA's Racing Committee) on Saturday 5th December, 1998 from 2p.m. to 4p.m. in the offices of Sayers and Associates (TID Division) - 2283 Argentia Road, Units#13 and 14, Mississauga, Ontario.

The meeting will discuss the 1999 Track Program and will encompass training of new organisers, development of officials, training clinics for all levels of riders and some exciting new initiatives for 1999.

All interested parties are encouraged to attend and become part of the exciting upcoming season.

To get there: Exit 401 at Mississauga Road. Come south on Mississauga Road to Argentia Road (Delta Hotel on northwest corner). Turn right along Argentia and the office is in a low rise commercial complex on the right hand side.

Employment Opportunities

Cycling BC, a not-for-profit society dedicated to enabling, enhancing and encouraging cycling in British Columbia, requires a number of qualified individuals to fill key positions.

Technical Director

The individual that we are seeking for this full time position should be a well-organized person who is enthusiastic and a team player. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Technical Director will works directly with the Sport Technical Committees, officials, coaches, regional representatives, organizers and others to manage the development of competitive cycling. Applicants should have either a post secondary degree in event management or related discipline and/or experience with all aspects of competition in sport. Knowledge of computer systems and communication skills are essential. Flexible hours and travelling will be required for the position. Application Deadline: December 11, 1998

Program and Communications Manager

Reporting to the Executive Director, the full time position of the Program and Communications Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining programs for the recreation, education and transportation sectors and managing the communications of the association. The successful candidate will possess excellent time management skills, an ability to work with volunteers, a good eye for detail and the ability to manage large projects. Applicants should have either a post secondary education in sport and recreation management or a related discipline and/or experience managing programs for a sport and recreation organization. The candidate should also have experience working with publication and internet communications. An internal candidate has been identified for the position. Application Deadline: December 11, 1998

Office Manager

Overseeing the overall operations of a busy office, this full time position requires an individual who is able to deal with a variety of demands while maintaining an excellent level of customer service. Reporting to the Executive Director, the office manager ensures that all inquiries are served through direct response or delegation in a professional and timely manner. The office manager also performs book keeping and data-entry duties. Applicants should have experience in a service industry, good communication skills and have good computer knowledge. Having a basic knowledge of cycling would be an asset. Application Deadline: December 11, 1998

Administrative Assistant

This six-month contract position requires an individual to fulfill general office duties in order to serve the membership of Cycling BC. These duties include data entry, phone service, word processing, and filing. The successful candidate is personable, hard working, able to learn quickly and comfortable in an office environment. Anticipated start date March 1, 1999 Application Deadline: January 15, 1999

The anticipated start date for these positions is January 4, 1998 (except the Administrative Assistant).
