Here is an update on activities and events that are likely to have an impact on the Canadian cycling scene.

'Cross Worlds team - It looks like most of Canada's big hitters won't be attending the 'Cross Worlds in January. Lyne Bessette (Cyclocrossworld.com) and Wendy Simms (Kona-Velobella) have said that it is highly unlikely they will attend, ditto for the Maxxis duo Geoff Kabush and Matt Toulouse. On the plus side, national champion Greg Reain (Stevens Racing) will be there, as will Espoir champion Kyle Douglas (3 Rox Racing). We have also heard that Tara Ross will represent Canadian women, and Mike Garrigan is likely to attend, plus some more Espoirs and maybe even a couple of Junior men. The official list won't be released until early January.


Road Nationals - The recently announced date change for the Tour of Utah (to avoid conflicting with Montreal-Boston) puts it smack dab on top of the Canadian Road Nationals - not that USA Cycling cares too much... However, this is creating considerable difficulties for the CCA and, potentially, the organizer in Granby, Quebec. A number of top Canadian pro men are likely going to be required to be at the Tour of Utah by their teams; riders such as Dominique Perras, Dominique Rollin, Ryder Hesjedal, Martin Gilbert and more than likely the Symmetrics crew (and possibly Michael Barry). It is highly unlikely that the Nationals could go earlier, so it appears that there will be an attempt to push it back a week.
