2006 Census Released

Statistics Canada has released the first portion of the 2006 National Census on population and dwelling counts. New population figures have been unveiled for Canada and the provinces and territories, as well as 33 metropolitan areas and more than 6,000 cities, towns, villages and Indian reserves. For anyone involved in the bicycle retail or wholesale business, or in activities such as bicycle advocacy, the census provides a wealth of data on Canadian markets - municipal, regional and national.

You can access the information in the website www.census2006.ca. More census data on population than ever before are available to the public free of charge via the website. Detailed analysis of the population is available in a report titled Portrait of the Canadian Population in 2006.

Statistics Canada will release further data from the 2006 Census in announcements running from July 2007 through May 2008. The next release, covering data on age and sex, is scheduled for July 17, 2007. Two further releases are scheduled for later this year: marital status, common-law status, families, households and housing and dwelling characteristics (September 12), and language, immigration, citizenship and Mobility and migration (December 4).
