On Sunday March 18th, the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary closed down the snowboard All Terrain Park to host a bike cross event on the snow. Over 130 riders of all ages came out to compete for over $10,000 in prizes in the second annual Fat Tire Fest sponsored by Calgary Cycle.

The event took place in the evening and consisted of 4-up heat style racing. The use of the lights in the park added an extra bit of difficulty to riding on the snow. The course also made use of the 'terrain' in the All Terrain Park, which included several jumps where the riders had opportunity to catch large air and have a soft landing on the snow in case they didn't make the landing.

The races took place through a series of heats and the snow made for interesting racing, accounting for a few wipe outs and some unexpected outcomes from the races. This was a great way to start off the gravity season in Calgary, despite the snow still being on the ground. Look for another great event next year.
