Position: Program Coordinator - Summer Rides Program

Job Description: TRIPS FOR KIDS VANCOUVER mountain biking adventures for youth from low- income families

Hiring Announcement Program Coordinator - Summer 2007

Organization

In the spring of 2001 Trips for Kids Vancouver became the first Canadian chapter of a non- profit organisation that started in Marin County, California in 1986. Trips for Kids offers mountain biking excursions for youth from low- income families. We know that the forests, mountains, and waters surrounding Vancouver present opportunities for fun, enriching, healthy, and educational experiences. We believe that free access to these natural areas entails a variety of benefits for individuals and their communities.

Expectations

The Program Coordinator will design, initiate and implement the summer rides program for 2007. Specific tasks are diverse and engaging, and may vary depending on the initiative and abilities of the incumbent. The minimum tasks for a successful program include:

- work with community centres and youth agencies to develop a rides schedule
- participate in all scheduled rides as a leader and coordinator
- ensure ongoing communication with partner organisations - create a safe, friendly and fun environment for all ride participants
- demonstrate compassion, respect, enthusiasm and creativity
- share knowledge of mountain biking skills and trail etiquette
- never get sick, tired, ill-tempered or manic
- smile and perform efficiently when faced with various administrative duties

This is a temporary full-time position. mid-June - late August, 40 hours per week. $15/hour.

Requirements

- currently enrolled as a full- time student in a community college or university
- returning to school in September 2007
- experience working with children and/or youth
- demonstrated leadership skills
- organised, independent and motivated
- intermediate to advanced mountain biking ability
- working knowledge of bicycle maintenance and repair
- current first aid certification
- valid BC Drivers Licence
- submit to Criminal Record check
