The "100 Mile Trial to Cure Diabetes" Gears Up Donations in Guelph

The 100 Mile Trial to Cure Diabetes is a locally created charity event, organized by Core Cycle and the community of students and staff at John F. Ross C.V.I. in Guelph, Ontario. It is part of a larger event called the Ride to Cure Diabetes organized by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

John F. Ross C.V.I teacher and president of Core Cycle, David Greisman will participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Ride to Cure Diabetes in Sonoma, California on June 23, 2007. What makes this event special is that David will be participating in the 100- mile ride with a student from J.F. Ross C.V.I., Johnathon Ruiter (age 18), who is a Type 1 diabetic. Johnathon is an athletic young adult who has never ridden on a road bicycle before and will embark on a training regiment prior to the event. Serotta Competition Bicycles has generously donated a custom frame and fork, allowing Johnathon to train and participate in this 100 mile-long ride in maximum comfort and efficiency.

Of the nine Canadian riders participating in the Ride to Cure Diabetes, four hail from Guelph, Ontario. Along with Johnathon and David, two other participants are Andrea Geddes-Barnes and 69-year-old Charlie Barnes, who has committed himself in endurance races to raise money until a cure is found. The 100 Mile Trial participants will share the road with 246 other cyclists from around the world, all raising funds in support of the JDRF.

Core Cycle is a consulting business in Guelph, Ontario, focused on custom bicycle fittings. Core Cycle is also Southern Ontario's only authorized dealer for Serotta Competition Bicycles, the world's leading manufacturer of custom bicycles. David comments:

"I believe, emphatically, that riding a bicycle is transformative. People's lives change once they get on their bikes. So, I can't imagine a better way to raise funds for a very worthy cause, than to do it while riding my bicycle. I am putting my energy into this project now because Core Cycle's philosophy is firmly grounded in giving back to the community through riding a bicycle. I needed to put that philosophy into practice now, not later, when it might be more convenient. Finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes is too important to wait."

The 100 Mile Trial to Cure Diabetes is committed to raising $50,000 for the JDRF, which will provide resources to continue the essential research worldwide that will lead to a cure for Type 1 diabetes. The official "send off" launch with the riders will take place on June 18th, 2007 at John F. Ross C.V.I.
