Canadian Junior Track Nationals - Bromont, Quebec
Day 1
The Junior Track Nationals opened today in Bromont, Quebec. Besides the awarding of national titles, the individual pursuits were of interest for riders who had been named to the Worlds team after the Road Nationals (see Daily News, July 9/07 8:30am EDT - Team for Junior World Championships in Mexico). The named riders had to meet a time standard for their selections to be confirmed.
All riders met the standard with the exception of the Junior Women's national road champion - Denise Ramsden of Ontario. Ramsden suffered a very unfortunate crash in training before the race, when she crashed in the rain and went into a ditch, breaking her arm.
According to Kris Westwood, Director of High Performance Programs at the CCA, the selection committee will wait to hear about the prognosis for Ramsden's recovery before making a final decision about her status for the Worlds.
