Spokes N Slopes Hilton Falls Time Trial
With a really tough course under the best of conditions facing them, the racers were dreading an even tougher challenge created by wet conditions. Fortunately the weather gods smiled upon the competition and merely drizzled instead of the expected downpour. The course length to 12 km was shortened due to the rain of the previous 2 days, leaving only one 1.5 km section of nasty, rocky singletrack. This section didn't claim any riders, but it did exact a toll on their bikes. Broken chains and pinch flats were very common. Some of the younger folks and new racers were out on the course for almost an hour, but the experienced racers rose to the occasion with some fast times. The fastest of the fast was Enrico Traini (Trail Blazers) with a time of 30:24.22, followed by Kevin Haviland at 30:27.93. Leslie Greene (DeVinci/Ford) turned in the fastest women's time at 36:10.43. Excellent times based on the difficulty of the course. Congratulations to all competitiors. Many thanks to the Hilton Falls Staff for their help. W.O.W. was pleased to contribute over $700 to Hilton Falls from the race. Hilton Falls is our favourite place to ride and we're happy that we could help. Go and ride there and contribute a few bucks to keep some great trails open. Huge thanks to Spokes N Slopes of Milton for the great prizes and the volunteer help (especially Jeff Marshall for all the trail work!). Spokes N Slopes will be holding trail rides at Hilton Falls and Tuesday night races at Kelso all summer. Contact them at 905-876-7676 if you want to join the fun. Thanks also to Charlie Fitz Whiskey's in Milton for hosting the after event party. Awesome food and a fine way to wrap up the day. And finally thanks to all of the volunteers who helped to make it happen on race day!
