UCI Announces ProTour Teams for 2008

The UCI has formally announced the names of the teams which will make up the ProTour next year. There are 18 teams in all, down two from last year. Missing is the now defunct Discovery Channel, as well as the embattled Unibet.com squad. Unibet.com did not file required paperwork, and it is unlikely that the squad would be back under the same sponsorship, after the constant refusal by Tour, Giro and Vuelta organizers to allow the squad in their races. Astana is approved - the removal of old management and restructuring has reassured the UCI - and High Road is provisionally on the list. High Road is the former T-Mobile squad, and after the recent withdrawal of Deutsche Telekom, the UCI has requested further documents from team management before issuing final approval.
