NCS #1, California

Hello from sunny California! Quick report on the race:

The women's race started with a strong field of 55 riders with Ann Trombley taking the early lead. The course was dry and dusty and very short, only two laps, with a winning time of 1' 38" . Ann Trombley, Airborne, took first; Rene Marshman, Moots, second place; Rachel Loydd, Gary Fisher placed third. Amber Chorney had a good start but took a wrong turn, luckily she realized her mistake and got quickly on track. We rode together for the remainder of the race and placed 15th, Amber, and 16th, Trish. The race was tight as we could see as many as five girls at a time within reach.

The men's race was three laps with Dave Weins,Polo Sport, setting a blistering pace and Roland Green,GT, hot on his heels. It was Dave's race today as he kept increasing his lead each lap. The real battle turned out to be for second place between Roland and Steve Larsen. They battled it out pushing each other but eventually Steve got the better of Roland near the bottom of the last descent. Peter Swenson was fourth with Travis Brown rounding up the top five. Chris Sheppard, Catera, placed a solid eleventh and Geoff Kabush, Kona, just missed the the money placing 21st.

Tomorrow is the short track event, basically an off road criterium, with the women starting at 4pm with a thirty minute race and the men at 4:45pm with 45 minutes. We'll keep you posted and good luck to any fellow racers reading the news in Plymouth!!

Cheers,

Trish Sinclair
