Ontario Cup XC #5

Plastiglas Ontario Cup #5, London ON, Sunday, July 6th

Plastiglas Ontario Cup # 5 will take place this Sunday, July 6th at Boler Mountain in the lively town of London, Ontario. Boler Mountain, a venue that is no stranger to hosting national events, will host an Ontario Cup once again after last year's success.

The course is a mix of Boler's extremely fast trails and twisty single track, which is easily accessible for all fans and spectators. Boler Mountain will not only showcase a hillier course this year, but also expect Johnny to be singing the National Anthem for the 1:30 pm start. Also, Ontario's own Derek Zandstra (3 Rox Racing), Emily Batty (Trek Store Team), and Tyson Wagler (Two-Wheel Express) are all expected to be racing, after arriving home from Mountain Bike World Championships in Italy. The cross-country events will test racers over distances ranging from 10ˆ 50 km.

The Experts and Pro/Elites will be racing from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm with other events starting at 8:30 am.

TrackFest: Registration Extended to End of Thursday!
Dave Shishkoff, GVVA Director of Racing

Registration for TrackFest '08 #1, with loads of cash and prizes to be awarded, will be extended one more day! Visit our website for more info.

Full registration is $50, or $35 for one-day-only. The 'C' field is particularly small, so we're encouraging more riders in this field to come out and make Victoria riders earn their $$! Same with the Women's field; will only two racers be competing for nearly $300 cash? (..and more if racing Madisons!) Ooops - they're telling me to keep quiet now...

Cycling Association Launches "Save the Velodrome "Fund
Courtesy GVVA

The Great Victoria Velodrome Association announced today it has established a special fund to help save the Juan de Fuca Velodrome.

GVVA president Chris Anstey said the association set up a special account after receiving a number of unsolicited donations and offers from people who wanted to help save the 1994 Commonwealth Games legacy.

"People were asking how they could help us fight to save the track," said Anstey. "So, to make it easy and convenient, the GVVA has established a special account at Coast Capital Savings. Donations can be made at any Coast Capital Savings branch."

Anyone interested in contributing can make a donation to the Greater Victoria Velodrome Association: Save the Velodrome Fund, Account Number 25831644-102.
