The Tour is over for another year, with Nicola Minali winning the final parade down the Champs Elysees. A group of 10 riders went clear 68 kilometres into the 149.5 kilometre stage, and grew to a maximum of 18. In the group were Stuart O‚Grady, Vjatceslav Ekimov, Andrea Tafi and Sergei Outschakov. They reached a maximum of 1:30 on the Telekom led peleton before being gradually brought back in ones and twos. The last to be caught was O‚Grady. a mere 2 kilometres from the line. Guesdon then jumped but was quickly reeled in, setting the stage for a sprint finish. Minali beat Erik Zabel, a rarity in this Tour, with Henk Vogels taking third.
