Tremblant Pre-Race Report
Cross country racer Christine Cogger of Team Xenacom has just phoned in a report on the conditions as we get ready for Canada Cup #3 tomorrow (cross country) and Sunday (downhill) in Mont Tremblant, Quebec. Christine says that it is incredibly hot and humid. The main climb is out in the open, so she expects that everyone is going to suffer in the heat tomorrow.
The course is a mixture of the ones used in `97 and `98, and is receiving mixed reviews from the riders. It is just over 9 kilometers in length (4 laps for the women, 5 for the men), and is "pretty fast, not too technical. It is a quite rolly type of course." Christine says that one rider who likes it is her team mate Georges Visser, who finished second last weekend at Camp Fortune.
The downhillers are not particularly pleased with the course, with one quote being "it is an ugly course" meaning, we assume, that there is nothing on it to suit either the technical riders or the speedsters. Christine also said that there is a lot of loose rock and gravel (on both XC and DH), making handling tricky. one positive note is that our old friends at STAT Timing are taking care of the results, so we should have information very quickly.
2CRAZYBIKEGUYS
FRI. JUNE 11, 1999.- Well, it‚s almost time. Five days till departure. The 2CRAZYBIKEGUYS, Geoff MacBride and Franek Matlosz sit pondering their approaching journey. Is all prepared, everything accounted for, all of the i's dotted and the t's crossed. 4500km does not allow a lot of room for mistakes.
On June 16 1999, the 2CRAZYBIKEGUYS will be departing Toronto, bound for Vancouver on mountain bikes, fully loaded and self contained. Why?!? Well two reasons. The first is to promote intelligent, safe and environmentally sound transportation (ie. Bicycle). The second, of course, because it's going to be an amazing ride!! Travelling the whole way (hopefully) by bicycle and camping across the country they hope to at least make people aware that the bicycle, while also excellent for fun and for sport, has more practical uses as well. The anticipated length of the trip from Toronto to Vancouver is 50 days with an average of approximately 100km/day.
