1st Annual Cycling BC Coaching Conference 2008

Cycling BC is proud to present the first annual Cycling BC Coaches Conference on November 22, 2008. The conference will welcome coaches from across the province and throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The aim of the conference is to provide coaches with a forum to discuss topics relevant to performance and development of the sport. The theme of this year's conference is:

Program

10:00-10:15 Introduction and Sign In.
10:15-11:00 Richard Wooles: The Cycling BC athlete development model
11:00-11:15 Break
11:15-12:00 Kurt Innes : Building comprehensive training programs to maximize athlete potential.
12:00-12:30 Discussion and Lunch
12:30-1:15 Dan Proulx: Developing cyclists from regional level to Olympian.
1:15-2:00 Steve Lund: Technical aspects in sport performance
2:00-2:15 Break
2:15-3:00 Richard Wooles: Experience inside the British cycling system.
3:00-4:00 Cycling BC Youth Team Planning - A sustainable future for cycling in British Columbia.

Location: Canada Room at Mountain Equipment Co-op in Vancouver. 130 West Broadway, Vancouver

Cost: Admission is free to Cycling BC license holders. All others will be charged $10.00 at the door. Proceeds from the conference will go to the Cycling BC Junior Team. Maximum of 100 seats available.

About the Presenters

Richard Wooles: Richard is the Provincial Head Coach and Director of High Performance for Cycling BC. In 2008, he was the Olympic Team Track coach for Canada at the Beijing Olympics. Richard brings a wealth of coaching experience that includes specialist skills in track endurance, track sprint, road, and mountain bike disciplines. Richard coached for two years with the UCI World Cycling Centre in Switzerland where he held the position of Track Sprint & Endurance Coach. Prior to his work with cycling's international governing body, he was Head Coach of the Women's National Program for Great Britain's Olympic Cycling Team. Richard also has extensive experience as a competitive cyclist and competed for ten years in national and international events, including the World Championships and Commonwealth Games.

Kurt Innes: Over his 23 years of involvement in Canadian Cycling, beginning in 1986 at his first Canadian National Championships, Kurt Innes has been a National Cycling Champion, Olympian, and National Team and two-time Olympic Coach. Kurt has seen the sport of cycling from all different angles, and with this experience in mind he will offer suggestions on preparing optimally for the challenges that cycling athletes and coaches face in today's sport environment.

Steve Lund: Steve Lund is Cycling BC's Provincial Mountain Bike Team Coach. Steve is a Level 4 Certified Coach and NCCP Master Course Conductor. He is also a graduate of the University of Victoria's National Coaching Institute in 1998. Steve is a former Canadian National Cycling Team and Canadian Olympic Triathlon Team Cycling Coach, Steve has been coaching full time since 1994. Many of Steve's athletes have represented their country at the Olympics, World Championships, Pan American Championships, World Cups and World Master's Championship events with numerous wins and podium finishes.

Dan Proulx: Dan Proulx is the Cycling BC Youth Coach and has worked with development athletes throughout his 15 year coaching career. Last year, Dan created the Cycling BC Youth Team which helped 480 kids discover the sport of competitive cycling. He also organized the BC Summer Games Cycling events. Dan is a Level 4 NCCP Coach and graduate of the National Coaching Institute - Calgary. In 2008, he was the personal coach of two Olympians. He was also the team manager for Canada in Beijing.
