Doug Preston 1957 - 2009

Long-time rider and member of Escape-Velocity and Burnaby Velodrome cycling clubs, Doug Preston passed away February 18th as a result of injuries received in an Motor Vehicle Accident while on a training ride. Best reports are that Doug was struck head on by a vehicle that crossed the centerline.

Doug was an enthusiastic rider and a tireless volunteer in the cycling community. Doug had been racing in one form or another since the mid 1980s with teams like Norco Anglia, River Road CC, Soliton and most recently Escape Velocity. He was an enthusiastic volunteer and was responsible for organizing many races over the years. Doug never gave up his love of racing and will be remembered as a fixture in racing in BC.

We will be holding a gathering to remember Doug's life on Thursday, March 5, starting at 5:00 PM, at the Tynehead Community Hall, 96 Avenue and 168 Street, Surrey BC. (tyneheadhall.ca/wordpress/)

If you have any photographs of Doug that you can share with us, or even provide us with some written memories of Doug, please submit them to rememberingdoug@telus.net as early as possible, preferably no later than Tuesday, March 3rd. Your message can be long or short, serious or humourous. We extend an invitation for all who knew Doug to join us in remembering him.
