Coast Mountain Sports Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race Series in Full Preparation Mode for Third Annual Squamish Race

With spring upon us, the Coast Mountain Sports Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race Series is in full gear, preparing for the 2009 race season, which begins on May 23 in Squamish, BC.

"The energy and excitement levels are really high for those of us involved in organizing the races this year, our 10th season, especially with Coast Mountain Sports as our new title sponsor" says Race Director, Bryan Tasaka. "Coast Mountain Sports will be instrumental in helping us build awareness for the sport of adventure racing, specifically the MOMAR."

Adding to the excitement, MOMAR has received an exclusive permit to take this year's Squamish race into terrain that no organized event has gone before. Professional adventure racer and Squamish resident Jen Segger, owner of Challenge By Choice fitness and race coaching, is once again designing an exceptional course, taking full advantage of the new terrain. "With the combination of Jen and Squamish, expect a world-class race with terrain that defines beauty and adventure", says Tasaka.

In addition to the regular 'enduro' course (~50km), MOMAR is offering a shorter 'sport' course (~30km) which is great news for new or less seasoned racers, or for those looking to ease into the race season. The sport course offers the same elements of the enduro course, including cross-country mountain biking, navigation, bushwhacking, trail running, and the signature rappel.

For those either contemplating racing or already committed, MOMAR is offering a series of one and two day training clinics in Squamish and North Vancouver, taught by long time adventure racer Tom Jarecki. The clinics are geared towards beginners, all the way to seasoned racers looking to get an edge. Squamish Rock Guides and Whistler Core Climbing Gym are also offering a rappelling course specifically for the Squamish race.

Volunteer opportunities are available for anyone who would like to experience adventure racing up close without actually racing. As anyone involved with previous MOMARs would agree, being part of this series in any way is an unforgettable experience. With Corsa Cycles, Quest University, Bob Fast, the Chief newspaper and the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company on board as local Community Sponsors, this year is sure to live up to MOMAR's reputation of excellence. Participating in a MOMAR also means you'll be supporting MOMAR's official charity, the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
