Last night the Ontario Sport Award winners were announced.  The annual Ontario Sports Awards recognize the accomplishments of our provinces' outstanding athletes, coaches, volunteers and corporate supporters.

Denise Kelly received the Female Coach of the Year Award and Glenn Meeuwisse received the Syl Apps Award

"Denise, currently the Provincial Coaching Director for the Ontario Cycling Association, began coaching in the 1980s while competing for the national cycling team.  In 2008 her athletes saw many successes.  With Denise as the Assistant Coach for Team Canada at the 2008 Pan-Am Championships, Canada won 4 gold medals and 1 silver.  Later that year at the 2008 Road Nationals, Team Ontario won 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals with Denise acting as Head Coach"

"Glenn's over 20 year involvement in the sport of cycling began when he started racing mountain bikes and was also a triathlete at the 1990 Commonwealth Games.  Glenn later turned his attention to coaching and is currently a NCCP level 3 mountain bike coach and was the first Ontario Mountain Bike Provincial Coach.  Glenn consistently gives back to the sport as an organizer, official, coach and leader.  His enthusiasm for the sport is second to none"

"Glenn and Denise have both had a very significant and positive influence on our High performance program and have taken Ontario to the top, they are both extremely deserving of these awards." (Jim Crosscombe, Executive Director of the OCA)
