The Cardiac Classic presented by Hansen Industries (www.hanind.com) and North Shore Bike Shop (www.northshorebikeshop.com) is back for a second year on Sunday, June 28, 2009 with a revamped course layout, and also bearing the prestigious title of BC Provincial XC Championships.

Registration is now open, with early bird entry fees in effect until June 21st, after which prices go up $10 for all categories.  Visit www.westcoastracing.ca/cardiac for detailed event information, plus link to on-line registration.

Last year’s debut edition of the Cardiac Classic, nestled in the ideally-suited Burnaby Mountain trail network in the heart of B.C.’s most populous urban region, featured a lung searing opening climb that tested racers right from the line.  In an effort to bring racers and spectators in closer proximity throughout, the course has been reworked into a more compact layout that will have a bonus effect of a higher ratio of singletrack, including some technical climbing.  Racers can expect to encounter a demanding course that switches quickly from one type of challenge to another.

West Coast Racing continues its tradition of family oriented events, with FREE non-competitive fun races for kids of all ages on specially designed mini courses, and a BBQ on site once again to help participants and watchers alike enjoy the new spectator-friendly layout.

Supporting sponsors Race Face (www.raceface.com) and Ryders Eyewear (www.ryderseyewear.com) are also on board again, as they have each signed on to provide top-notch prizing and support for West Coast Racing’s entire slate of diverse events for 2009, which also include a new Super D plus the long-running Vanier CX in the fall.

West Coast Racing is a community cycling club operating as a not-for-profit society run entirely by volunteers from within its membership.  In addition to hosting several events, West Coast Racing’s own member activities include outdoor and indoor cycling programs year-round for mountain bikers, road riders, and cyclocrossers including group rides, training programs, bike fits, skills clinics and fitness assessments.
