The New York Times had Bioethics professor Alice Dreger speaks to a geneticist and an endocrinologist about the growing debate on who exactly can compete as a woman in sports. Cycling has gone through this issue with Canadian downhiller Michelle Dumaresq, a transgendered athlete who was allowed to compete as a woman, and represented Canada at the world championships. Track and field sports are now struggling with the same issue over South African Castor Semenya, whose gender was questioned after winning the 800m world title.
