Abbotsford BMX and Cycling BC are teaming up to develop Canada's first Supercross Track in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The new track will be similar in both size and structure to the BMX track used at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The project recently received approval to move forward from the Abbotsford Parks Recreation & Culture Commission, maintaining the City of Abbotsford's ongoing commitment to the sport of BMX. The new track will also be the cornerstone of a bid to host a World Cup Super Cross event within the next two years. A World Cup event will bring competitors to Abbotsford from around the world and enhance the City of Abbotsford's position as Sport Town Canada.

The existing Abbotsford BMX track has already received substantial upgrades over the past two years. In 2007 the track was re-designed to International BMX standards and the corners were upgraded from dirt to asphalt in 2008. The new Supercross upgrade will include a taller and steeper start hill similar to that used at the Beijing Olympics and a Supercross straight leading to the first corner. The existing "pro sections" of the course will be upgraded to international Supercross standards to complete the improvements.

Once constructed, the track will provide a Supercross track for local riders and function as a training facility for current and future Olympians. The new track is scheduled for completion prior to May 22nd, 2010, when Abbotsford BMX will host an International Classic race.

Fundraising for the facility is ongoing and the development group is keen to secure corporate support for the new track. Individuals and corporations interested in donating funds, products or services to the project or interested in sponsoring this new and exciting sports venue should contact:
