October 31/09 10:10 am - Speed Skating Canada Looking for Speed Skating Canada House Volunteers

Posted by Editor on 10/31/09

Speed Skating Canada is looking for highly motivated, energetic volunteers who are passionate about sport and speed skating to complete a variety of roles supporting the activities planned for Speed Skating Canada House and the promotion of speed skating in and around the 2010 Winter Olympics. Work schedules and time commitments will vary for each role and, as such, interested individuals are requested to apply for all roles in which they are interested.

Speed Skating Canada House will be a home away from home for the family and friends of Canadian speed skaters, coaches and support staff during the 2010 Winter Olympics Games as well as Speed Skating Canada's base of operations for non-accredited staff for the duration of the Games.

Located at the UBC John Lecky Boathouse, this site will serve as a base of operations to service family, friends and sponsors. A store located on the Richmond Dyke will offer a location for speed skating fans to purchase fan ware as well and take in speed skating interpretive activities. While there will be many activities taking place, the primary objective of Speed Skating Canada House and the services being offered there is to ensure that those who matter most to our team are taken care of, so that the team can focus on being at their very best on the ice.

For volunteers, this represents an opportunity to live a unique Olympic experience with Canada's première sport. There are no restrictions on who may apply, however all volunteers will be responsible for their own accommodations in the Richmond/Vancouver area and getting themselves to and from the UBC Boathouse for assigned shifts. Volunteers will be provided with a special Speed Skating Canada House Volunteer vest, as well as an official certificate recognizing their involvement with this program. Meals and break-time snacks will be provided to volunteers when they are working.
