Whitmore's Landscaping Super Cross Cup Weekend

Two of America’s best-know cyclocross series combine for a two-day throwdown in the Hamptons this weekend. The two-day Whitmore’s Landscaping Super Cross Cup is part of both the MAC Series and the North American Cyclocross Trophy (NACT) series. As last year, weekend takes on even more importance because the Elite races are UCI sanctioned and serve as the NACT Finals. Any ties in the final NACT points standings will be broken by finishing position in Sunday’s race.

But Whitmore’s isn’t just about Elite riders. All of MAC’s amateur classes will also be competing. To accommodate both the early sunset and racers who have to make a longer-than-normal drive to the northernmost race weekend in the MAC Series, the daily programs have been modified slightly each day. Race promoter Myles Romanow has also made arrangements with the Enclave Inn to supply deeply discounted room rates at all four of the hotel chain’s local properties. Racer rates at Enclave Inn for Whitmore’s Super Cross weekend will be $69-$79, depending on the type of room. More information (lodging discount, directions, registration link) can be found on the race website www.HamptonVelo.com.

The Whitmore’s Landscaping Super Cross Cup takes place at Southampton Youth Services’ massive park and athletic facility on the eastern end of Long Island. The venue is easily accessible by car, ferry from New England and the Long Island Rail Road, and offers full locker room facilities and indoor showers. And, according to Romanow, last year’s bitterly cold weather was an anomaly. “Last week we had torrential rain like most of the Northeast,” says promoter Myles Romanow, “that bodes well for clear weather this weekend. It should also make the course less bumpy than in the past.” The Weather.com forecast calls for temperatures in the mid ‘50’s and partly cloudy, with a chance of a few showers on Sunday.
