December 8/09 17:38 pm - Cali World Cup : Team Canada Report 2

The preparation for the Cali World Cup entered its third day with the sprinters doing some plyometrics to help wake up their bodies and get ready for training.  Stephane Cossette (QC), Monique Sullivan (AB), and Joseph Veloce (ON) were the first ones to the track to warm up before launching in to 250 and 500 meter efforts.  According to Cossette, the sprint team is “putting in some fast times and we are gaining confidence every day that we are here.”  They will be joined by the final team member Travis Smith (AB) tonight.

The team has been enjoying exclusive track time; however, with official training times having started they are now on track for half the time and with three times more people.  The 10 Canadian riders shared the track with the US and Belgian riders and Zach Bell (YK), who last year attended World Cups with 2-3 teammates, commented that “I thought I would never see (a World Cup) were we are the largest team on the track.”

Work for the endurance riders was focused on team pursuit with efforts at race pace and working on exchanges while the track was still relatively unpopulated.  Bell is impressed with the improvements the team is making on a daily basis and “there is a sense of excitement that is starting to show in training and people seem to be pushing performances as we draw closer to the racing.”

The three days of racing begin on Thursday, December 10th, 2009.
