Back by popular demand is the 2nd annual Canal Days Mountain Bike Race on Sunday Aug 1st in Port Colborne, ON. A citizen’s event, CDMBR is bigger and better with a more festive atmosphere. The race will feature some of the most challenging trails in Southern Ontario. There will be twisty trails, log- overs, steep climbs, bridges, rock gardens all interspersed with double track passing areas. Participants at last year’s race and the Frostbike winter race can attest that even elite riders will not go away unchallenged. A free informal “youth” race kicks off at 10:00 am followed by the main event at 11:00 am. Mountain Bikers can register on-line canaldaysmountainbikerace.com or at sponsoring Niagara bike shops.
Registered participants for the main event will receive a coveted CDMBR tee shirt, a meal, number plate, and be eligible for over $2,000 in swag donated by Niagara bike shops and sponsors. Organized by volunteers of the Shorthills Cycling Club (IMBA, OCA), proceeds will go towards the club’s trail advocacy and maintenance efforts. SHCC president, Tim Lee said “Many racers said the inaugural race was the best event of their season. This year the race is better with more prizes, more trails. The after-race festivities at the Funky Monkey Pub with have a licensed area and the meal will feature a pig roast and deep fried turkeys.”
CDMBR is part of Port Colborne’s four day event, Canal Days and is ranked as one of Ontario’s top festivals. Go sail on Lake Erie on a tall ship, see an enormous car show, or an amazing kite show. There is a youth entertainment area, carnival rides for kids, free entertainment, fireworks and more. This is a race event for your whole family to enjoy.
Only the first 500 registered get to race so sign up early before the free T-shirt cut-off time. Don’t miss out on the “must do” mountain bike race of the year. Hone up on your bike handling skills and come and see what the buzz is all about.
