A beautiful sunny day in Italy as the women head out for 4 laps (plus start loop)

 

Our coverage made possible with the support of Shimano

 

The women's race will be 4 laps, reduced from 5.  Course deemed too difficult for the initial 5.  Missing is top U23 rider Julie Bressett, 4th overall in the World Cup standings.  Bressett will be absent from this and the next World Cup as she prepares for the Worlds in Mont Ste Anne.

 

Start loop

 

Willow Koerber (Subaru Trek) at the front as they head out for the first of 4 laps. Eva Lechner (Colnago Arreghini Sudtirol) on her wheel. Maja Wloszczowska (Ccc Polkowice) 3rd.  Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team) 9th at 4 sec. Marie-Helene Premont (Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain) 18th, Emily Batty  (Trek World Racing) 28th

 

Lap 1

 

Through the first bit of singletrack and Georgia Gould (Luna Pro Team) has the lead folowed by Koerber at 2 sec with  Pendrel on her wheel.  Then Wloszczowska, Esther Süss (Wheeler-IXS Pro), Lrchner, Irina Kalentieva (Topeak Ergon Racing Team), Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) and Marielle Saner-Guinchard (Bikepark.Ch Scott).  Premont sitting ~ 15th

 

Lap 1 ends

5:38 am

Catharine Pendrel (Luna Pro Team) now alone in the lead through the feedzone with a good gap (11 sec) on 3 chasers Gould, Koerber and Wloszczowska.  Another chase group of 3 : Suss, Kalentieva and Nash at 12 sec.

Premont 10th, Batty 21st, Walter 48th

 

Lap 2

 

5:48 am  on the long climb

Pendrel still leading, but  Wloszczowska closing at 8 sec on the long climb.  Gould 3rd, Nash 4th, Koerber 5th, Kalentieva 6th, Suss 7th, Katherine Compton (PlanetBike) 8th,.  Then a 10 sec gap to Premont in 9th

 

 

5:56 am

Pendrel extending her lead over Wloszczowska to 20 sec.  Nash 3rd at 22 sec, Koerber 4th and Kalentieva 5th

 

Lap 3

 

As they start the 3rd lap, Pendrel leading Wloszczowska by 17 sec.  Nash 3rd at 19 sec, Koerber 4th at 28 sec.  Kalentieva 5th at 29 sec but has Suss and Gould on her wheel

 

Premont 10th, Batty 22nd,

 

6:03 am

 

Up the 1st climb Wloszczowska has closed on Pendrel.  Nash 3rd at .  And at another 10 sec a large chase group of 6 riders

 

6:07 am

 

Pendrel still leading but Wloszczowska is on her wheel.  The chase group now 4 and being led by Nash is in sight

 

6:11 am

Pendrel again with a gap as they head toward the last climb on the course

Katie Compton is having an amazing ride.  She has just passed Kalentieva

 

Pendrel now extending her gap 9 sec on Wloszczowska on the descent to the end of the lap.  Nash 3rd, Compton 4th, kalentieva 5th

Wloszczowska now leading Pendrel as they hit the line to start the final lap.

 

Last lap

Wloszczowska leading Pendrel.  Compton 3rd at 23 sec. Nash 4th at 24 sec and Kalentieva  5th at 25 sec

Suss, Gould, Koerber, Premont (9th)

Batty 21st

As they head up the first climb, Wloszczowska is putting the pressure on Pendrel

As they head into the wood, Pendrel leading Wloszczowska,  Compton now alone in 3rd is closing on the leaders.

Kalentieva 4th, Nash 5th

 

Koerber not having a good race this week and is 10th, behind Premont

 

6:31

 

Pendrel and Wloszczowska still battling it out as they head up the final climb.  Pendrel is leading but can't seem to shake the Polish rider.

 

Kalentieva has caught and passed Compton for 3rd spot

 

6:36 am

On the descent it is still Pendrel, but Wloszczowska is still there.

 

Kalentieva  has put a good gap between herself and Compton

 

6:38

It is a sprint and Wloszczowska has dropped Pendrel
