September 18/99 10:10 am - Vouilloz Takes Men's DH Title

Posted by Editor on 09/18/99

No surprises here - Nicolas Vouilloz of France has won another rainbow jersey for his collection. The rain backed off for the final 20 or so riders, and the course started to dry up slightly, giving an advantage to those last riders. However, conditions still were not great - Shaun Palmer was on a great run and crashed just meters from the finish line, dragging his bike across behind him. Chris Redden says that he thinks Palmer finished around 7th.

Chris also said that the course would have pretty extreme even if it had been dry, but in the mud and wet conditions it is crazy. "I saw guys bottoming out with 8 inches of rear travel. There are some big dropoffs, which they probably could have handled in the dry, but now there are riders going off course simply because they can't handle the speed."

We have top 5 results; final results and times to follow.

Elite Men
1. Nicolas Vouilloz FRA
2. Mickael Pascal FRA
3. Eric Carter USA
4. Daid Vasquez ESP
5. Cedric Gracia FRA
