The men will do 6 laps of the course in Windham NY

Lap 1

 

103 riders started out with World Cup leader and reigning World Champ Nino Schurter (Scott-Swisspower Mtb-Racing) getting the holeshot.

 

As they head up the climb it is Carlos Coloma (MSC Bikes) who moves into the lead followed by Schurter and Julien Absalon (Orbea)

Absalon takes the lead as they move into the woods

 

2:36 pm

 

A group of 5 is already beginning to form at the front with Absalon, Schurter, Fumic, Stander and Vogel

 

2:44

 

The 5 are setting a furious pace at the front with Schurter and Vogel at the front seting the pace.  There are 3 chasers :  Ralf Näf, Lukas Flückiger  and ?  at 5 sec, and then a big gap

 

They are just completing the first lap

 

Lap 2

Starting the 2nd lap:

Vogel, Schurter, Stander, all s.t., Gujan at 1 sec, Fumic at 5 sec, , Kulhavy at 7 sec, Hermida, Fontana, Abslaon, Fluckiger,

 

Kabush 30th at 1:33 back.  Zandstra 34th

 

Absalon has a flat and he has now gotten into the Neutral support and dropped back into the teens.

Lots of flats and mechanicals.  Kabush has been sitting in the tech zone for a long time now.  Seems to be having drivetrain problems.  Adam Morka, Peter Glassford, Andrew Watson, Todd Wells, Adam Craig have all had flats.

Kabush has just dropped out of the race.

 

Now 4 leaders:  Nino Schurter (Scott-Swisspower Mtb-Racing), Florian Vogel (Scott-Swisspower Mtb-Racing), Manuel Fumic (Cannondale Factory Racing) and Burry Stander (Specialized Factory Racing)

 

Ralph Näf (Multivan Merida Biking Team) leading a chase group of 3 or more with Kulhavy, Hermida, Fontana, and maybe Gujan

 

Absalon now 13th

Schurter taking the lead over Vogel.  Fumic 3rd and Stander 4th.  Then a gap to Hermida and Fontana and Kulhavy

 

Lap 3

 

As they start lap 3:  Schurter leading Vogel, Fumic and Stander all same time.  Hermida 5th at 3 sec. Fontana 6th at s.t., Kulhavy 7th at 4 sec, Lukas Flückiger 8th at 12 sec, Martin Gujan (Cannondale Factory Racing) 9th at 14 sec, Christoph Sauser (Specialized Factory Racing) 10th at 27 sec, Absalon 12th at 49 sec

 

Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (Subaru-Trek) 30th, Sam Schultz 32st, Derek Zansdstra 32nd at 2:32 back

Matt Hadley 52nd, Cameron Jette 55th, Craig 59th, Eric Batty 62nd

 

Lap 4

Starting lap 4

Schurter leading Stander, then Vogel in 3rd and Fumic 4th all s.t.

Kulhavy 5th at 3 sec, Hermida 6th at 13 sec, Fontana 7th at s.t., Lukas Flückiger 8th at 17 sec, Sauser 9th at 20 sec, Gujan 10th at 34 sec.

Schultz 27th, Zandstra 30th, Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski  32nd, Wells 38th, Matt Hadley 48th, Cam Jette 53rd, Adam Craig 54th

 

Zach Hughes, Kabush, Watson, Morka are all out of the race due to mechanicals

 

3:29 pm

 

The front group has lost Fumic but been joined by Kulhavy

 

 

As they approach the end of the lap, there is now a group of 7 forming at the front

 

Lap 5

 

Schurter leading Stander, Vogel 3rd, Kulhavy 4th, Fluckiger 5th, Sauser 7th, Fumic 7th, Hermida, 8th

Stander has just had a mechanical and is now being chased by Absalon

 

3:43 pm

Group at the front is back to 4, and  Sauser has moved to the front, followed by Schhurter, Vogel and Kulhavy.  Fluckiger is off the back chasing on his own.

 

Hermida and Fontana are a chase group of 2, but 30 sec back.  Stander 8th, Absalon is 9th and moving up

 

3:49 pm

Vogel has attacked and has a gap

 

Sauser and Schurter are chasing as they head to lap's end

 

Last lap

 

As they start the final Lap:  Vogel leading  Sauser by 1 sec, Schurter 3rd sts, Kulhavy 4th st..   5th Fluckiger at 2 sec.  Hermida 6th at 40 sec , Fontana 7th 45 sec, Stander 8th 1 min, Absalon 9th 1:14, Gujan 10th at 1:21

 

 

Vogel is being very aggressive, and pushing the pace

Absalon has caught and passed Stander

Vogel leading Schurter and Kulhavy, and Sauser hanging off the back as they approach the top of the climb for the final time.

 

4:02 pm

Absalon has now moved up to 6th spot

Kulhavy has attacked and Schurter has responded

 

4:15 pm

Kulhavy has the lead and a gap on Schurter and Sauser

 

Kulhavy has a 12 sec lead on Schurter.  Vogel 3rd, Sauser 4th and Fluckiger 5th
