The second round of the Supercup cyclocross series took place on Saturday in Seaford, Long Island, just east of New York City. The Canadian contingent was thinned because of the race day being Saturday instead of Sunday, but Jeff Weber and myself persevered through the many obstacles on Friday's journey to New York. Here are a few tips if you are going to race near New York City:

- don't get off the expressways until you are as close to your destination as possible. Otherwise, you will spend many hours trying to find your way around town.

- bring a very good map. The people of New York city (even the police) do not know how to get around the city at all, let alone get to somewhere that is apparently around the corner.

- expect bewildered glances when at 2:30 in the morning you want the motel room for the WHOLE night, not just the 4 hour special rate. Also expect the room to smell of horrible perfume, and have entire walls AND ceilings covered with mirrors.

Anyways, after an absolutely brutal day of travel (an understatement), the sun came out for race day, on a course that required you to stay in the big ring the entire time. Lots of paved sections made the race very fast and drafting quite necessary; and from the end of the first lap Pontoni had already made the race winning move! Bart Bowen and Frank McCormack could be seen working over Marc Gullickson, and those were the next three finishers in that order, behind Pontoni.

Jeff and I both had respectable races, but small errors added up quickly (a bad start for Jeff, and losing contact with the main group for myself). An excellent race though, and a good experience all in all. Jeff finished 26th and I ended up 16th. Check out the whole story at www.kirongroup.com. Thanks to Kris Westwood at the CCA and Lyle Fulkerson of the Kiron Group.

Wedding Confirmation

We now have confirmations from 3 sources that Lesley Tomlinson and Andreas Hestler did indeed get married this past weekend. Congratulations to the happy couple.
