March 30/11 10:17 am - Recycled Cycling Items for Forest City Velodrome

Posted by Editoress on 03/30/11

The Forest City Velodrome in London Ontario, began a program in the spring of 2010 to recycle cycling equipment for our youth racers.  We were able to rebuild 4 complete bikes and let the kids ride all summer for fitness and pleasure.

We are looking to expand the program for the summer of 2011.  The kids need smaller frames or complete bikes.  Our youth program has expanded to 10 racers looking for equipment.  Even if the bike is well used, we will be able to re-build it for the kids this summer.

The FCV will be organizing youth rides from the Velodrome on Weekends. This will improve their skills on the road, keep them safe and give all of our youth racers a structured summer of fun.

Our goal is to have 8 - 10 recycled bikes for the youth racers to use in May for the Youth Cup events in June.  From the generous donations so far, in 2011 we have 7 youth track bikes and 3 road bikes in service.

Many of the kids are new to cycling and are in need of everything from cycling shoes & pedals to arm & leg warmers.  If you have equipment that you are not using, please contact: ForestCityVelodrome@live.com and we can make arrangements to have the equipment picked up.

Special promotion for retail stores: Make a donation of used equipment, parts, clothing and the FCV will provide a "Hotlink" from our partners page to your website.  Our goal is to keep kids in cycling.
