The town of Mississippi Mills, 30km west of Ottawa, will be celebrating bicycles, their benefits, and their effect on our culture all month. There are exhibits, plays and presentations; as well as games and a variety of guided tours throughout Mississippi Mills. The tours - of lengths up to 100km - will allow participants to take in the sights, taste local food, to learn, and above all, to have fun. Throughout the month there are events that will be of interest to people of all ages.

Weekends feature a variety of specialized bike tours with themes ranging from bird watching, farm tours and local heritage. Guided tours include Blooms on Bikes with Ontario Today’s Ed Lawrence and an Olympian Ride with skier Perianne Jones. For cycling purists, the Tour de Mississippi Mills offers circuits with distances of 30-100km.

Evening events include bicycle polo and a stargazers’ ride; while movies and presentations are offered to indoor audiences. The highlight of the program features Evalyn Parry’s highly regarded musical Spin, which celebrates the role of bicycles in shaping society. Spin is showing at the Almonte Old Town Hall, Saturday June 4 at 8:00pm.

Most of the activities and guided tours are free to participants but donations are welcome. There is a fee for the Tour de Mississippi Mills and the Bicycle Polo tournament. Tickets to Spin are available for $20 if purchased ahead of time, $25 at the door.

Check out the Mississippi Mills Bicycle Month website for more information and a full list of events.
