The organizers of the famous Mt Washington Hill Climb in New Hampshire have announced that they are stripping Canadian Genevieve Jeanson and American Tyler Hamilton of their records for the fastest time up the climb.

The annual event sends riders up a 12.5 kilometre ascent, with a gradient of 21% in places. Jeanson set the women's record of 54:02 in 2002, and also held the best female 20-34 and best under 19, set in 1999). Jeannie Longo now holds the women's record at 58:14, set in 2000.

Hamilton set records in 1997 and 1999, before Tom Danielson set a new record of 49:24 in 2002. Hamilton is also stripped of his 2006 age category record for men 35-39.

Race director Mary Power said to Associated Press, "following the revelation by Tyler [in his interview on 60 Minutes regarding doping], as well as Genevieve's earlier confirmation that she used banned drugs from the age of 16 until her retirement 10 years later, we are respecting the rulings of national and international cycling federations, and we are no longer recognizing any of their times here as records."
