September 1/11 8:51 am - MTB World Championships: Junior Men XC UPDATES

The Junior men take the first start on the 2nd day of racing in Champery, Switzerland.

 

A good size field, at 98 riders, will do do a start loop of 3 km then 4 full laps of the 4.8 km course for a total distance of 22.2 km.

 

Canada has 3 entries: Marc-Antoine Nadon, Alexandre Vialle, Thomas Neron.

 

There has been rain overnight and the woods are VERY slippery.

 

Lap 1

 

As they head out onto the first lap Grant Ferguson (Great Britain) has the lead by 4 sec over Andrey Fonseca (Costa Rica), Andri Frischknecht (Switzerland) 3rd at 16 sec, Michael Mayer (Austria) 4th at 19 sec

Neron 43rd at 1:45, Vialle 64th at 2:13, Nadon 83rd at 2:40

 

9:12 am ET

 

LOTS of crashes in the woods. Alexandre Vialle (Canada) has crashed and has a bleeding lip

 

Lap 2

 

As they head out onto the 2nd lap, Victor Koretzky (France) has taken over the lead and has 26 sec on Fonseca.  Ferguson 3rd at 28 sec and Maxime Urruty (France) 4th at s.t.   Howard Grotts (USA) 5th at 51 sec

Anton Cooper (New-Zealand)   8th at 1:10

 

Neron 37th at 3:17,  Vialle 48th at 4:10, Nadon 84th at 6:10

 

Lap 3  (9:37 am ET)

Koretzky still leading. Fonseca 2nd at 1:20, Maxime Urruty (France) 3rd at 1:36, Ferguson 4th at 1:39, Dominic Zumstein (Switzerland) 5th at 1:48, Cooper 6th at 1:50, Grotts 7th at 2:01

Neron 35th, Vialle 44th, Nadon 79th

 

Lap 4 last lap

Heading out onto the last lap it is Koretzky still leading. Fonseca 2nd at 1:38, Zumstein 3rd at 1:58, Ferguson 4th at 2:02,   Cooper 5th at 2:06, Grotts 7th

Neron 37th, Vialle 49th, Nadon lapped
