International Women‚s Grand Prix (thanks to J.L.)
American cyclists dominated the first stage of the International Women's Grand Prix of Canada taking 3 of the 5 first places of the 100 km road race held near Granby, Quebec.
Kendra Wenzel, of the Saeco Timex team, (2 hrs, 34 min. 19 secs) beat Dede Demet, also of the United States, following a hard sprint involving 3 cyclists. Russian Valentina Gerassimova finished in 3rd place.
The first 3 were amongst a small pack of 8 riders who got away after the first of 2 major hills in Frelighsburg.
