September 16/11 12:01 pm - Tour of Britain: Stage 6, Sparling most combative

Posted by Editoress on 09/16/11

Brief results from today's 6th stage of the Tour of Britain won by Lars Boom (Rabobank). Canada's amie Sparling (Team Raleigh) was named the most combative rider on the stage.

Lars Boom tightened his grip on the IG Markets Gold Jersey by taking victory in Wells at the end of the Somerset Stage of The Tour of Britain.  The Rabobank rider emerged from the final corner ahead of his breakaway companions to take the win ahead of Alexandre Pichot and Leopold Koenig.

The big losers of the day were British overall contenders Geraint Thomas and Ian Bibby.  The Welsh rider missed the important move on the Skoda King of the Mountains climb of Old Bristol Hill, to end the stage 25th, slipping ten places in the overall standings to 12th, nearly two minutes in arrears.

Bibby meanwhile was involved in an earlier crash, with Thomas, and ended his Tour of Britain in an ambulance with a broken collar bone, ending his chances of a top five finish.
