BC Summer Games Selection Event

The third BC Summer Games selection race of the Lower Mainland zones (Zone 3,4 & 5) took place in Aldor Acres, the Anderson's farm in Langley. Typical Vancouver weather we had, heavy rain, strong wind and a mild temperature of 8 degrees. Haha... Over 500 racers ranging from grade 5 to grade 12 registered for the event. The race course was wet at the beginning, muddy halfway through the event, disgusting by the time the grade 12's finished their race. By the end of the race, every kid was brown from head to toe, the farm looked more like a battle field than a mountain bike race. Pictures of these muddy kids will be posted on my website once the photos are developed. The race course is simply a loop of double track. Obviously it was extremely slippery due to the slick mud, especially in the downhill section. Each lap maybe take between 10 to 20 minutes depending on how many hot dogs from the concession stand that the racers ate. Those tube steaks were good I must say!

Anyway, back to the race action. Unofficially, Kelsey Green from Burnaby won the grade 9, 10 girls race. I was too busy drinking my hot chocolate when the grade 9, 10 boys were battling out on the course so that result will come later. In the grade 11, 12 boys race, Rocky boy Jaimie Douglas cruised to an easy win over Bryan Moffat from The Ridge Bike Shop. There was a big gap between the two of them and the rest of the pack. Grabbing third place was Basic Nutrition's Greg Day. In the grade 11, 12 girls race, like the second race two weeks ago, Alison Testroete from Abbotsford took off right from the beginning and never looked back. She beat most of the boys during her race too. Complete race results can be found on SPOKE website later on this week: www.spoke.bc.ca/
