September 20/97 21:10 pm - Local Events, Vuelta, Grand Prix des Nations

Posted by Editor on 09/20/97

Internationally, tomorrow is the date for the Elite men and women cross-country events at the World Championships in Chateau D‚Oex, Switzerland - and we will have results for you as they become available. On a more local level; if you live in Southern Ontario we urge you to spend some of the day in Dundas, Ontario (next to Hamilton). In the morning you can attend the Provincial Hillclimb Championships (there is nothing quite like watching riders coughing up a lung as they try to sprint up a 3 kilometre climb...). In the afternoon you can support mountain biking by going to the Dundas Valley „A Day of Education in Conservation‰ event. The Hamilton-Wentworth Mountain Bike Association is to be commended for the latter event. Not too, too long ago the Dundas Valley conservation area was about to be closed to mountain biking. Through lobbying and education they were able to keep trails open. Tomorrow‚s (Sunday) event features trail rides, hikes for the non-riders, clinics and bike checks - all to show that bikers can be responsible trail users and supporters. The event is from Noon to 4:00 pm, and you can enter off Governor‚s Road in Dundas (take the QEW to the 403, to the Main Street West exit, to Governor‚s Road from Toronto). We hope to see you at these events. (P.S. If you have similar events in your community we want to hear about them) Vuelta a Espana, Spain Stage 14, Ovideo to Alto del Naranco - 165.5 kms 1.
