Roubaix Cup race #2, Sunday March 17th

Gary Hilderman won a cold and slippery Roubaix Cup race #2, Sunday. He did the 20 km event in a time of 51:53. George Gamble was second at 52:35 and Pat Ferris third at 1:02:42.  Dawit Feyissa was 4th at 1:04:44 closely followed by Celeste Pakstas 4 seconds later.

Round #3 and the grande finale of the three race series comes up next Sunday. Pat Ferris has 7 points with Gary Hilderman at 6, Kevin Shaw with 5 and George Gamble at 4. Both Gary Hilderman and Pat Ferris have won this series before so it will be a battle on the ‘Two Rivers’ loop next Sunday at 2 pm from the Baldonnel School. The weather and road conditions, as always, will be a factor.

Roubaix Cup Race 1, March 10th

 Kevin Shaw won the opening Roubaix Cup race, Sunday. With a time of 1:44:59 for the 46 km, 2 lap event. Defending champ Pat Ferris was second at 1:48:38 and Roger St. Jean third at 1:53:19.

Nine riders came out for this winter classic race. The route had dry pavement, loose gravel, mud, ice and snow to make travel interesting. A fierce East head wind made the paved section hard. Pat Ferris and Kevin Shaw pulled away on the early gravel section, eventually gaining a substantial lead on the rest of the riders. Shaw pulled away from Ferris on the long hill to get away for keeps.

Dan Webster had a couple of crashes but still managed a fourth spot at 1:53:25. 2010 Cup winner Gary Hilderman was 5th at 1:56:50, Matt Jarnagin 6th at 2:01:09 and George Gamble had a crash and mechanical difficulties but finished with 2:03:38.

David Feyissa won the 1 lap race with 56:00 and Adam Currie 1:05:55.
