The Fédération québécoise des sports cyclists (FQSC) is pleased to announce the arrival of Mauricio Garzon as the Sector Coordinator for Road, Track and Para, effective as of April 2nd.
The new coordinator will be responsible for support in organizing cycling events on road and track, as well as the development of track cycling. His mandate will also include the establishment of structures and programs to encourage the development of cycling on the road, at all levels.
"It is a real pleasure for me to integrate into the FQSC team. This is an opportunity that I've been waiting a long time for. I'll do my best to meet FQSC objectives in the short, medium and long term, "said Garzon.
Mauricio Garzon has held various positions in sports for 18 years. He worked as director of high performance in Bogota, Colombia, from 2000 to 2006. He also served as road and track coach, as well as trainer in a professional U23 road team.
Always looking to improve, Garzon will soon complete his PhD in physical activity at the University of Montreal, which will add to the training he already has, including a specialization in sports theory and methodology obtained in Cuba, as well as additional training of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Level 3 road cycling and track.
Garzon explains his main objectives for the 2013 season: "I want to contribute to the development of cycling in Quebec and positioning FQSC as the baseline, both provincially and nationally. I want to assure the development of many Quebec cyclists, including through their selection on national team projects, allowing them to participate in international competitions."
"We are very pleased to have Mauricio join the FQSC. The experience he has gained during the many years he worked in Colombian cycling will certainly enrich Quebec cycling," said FQSC CEO, Louis Barbeau.
