Men are on course for 7 laps

 

The weather is holding, cloudy with sunny perieds but no rain

 

It is a small field of just 54 men, with many of the European riders chosing not to make the trip over.

Lap 1

Jaroslav Kulhavy (Specialized Racing XC) went to the front and leads Schurter on the climb.  But it is along long line of riders up the climb with again the riders at the back having to deal with the bunch up on the corners

 

Derek Zandstra (Scott-3RoxRacing) has had a mechanical and now sits dead last

1/2 way round and Jaroslav Kulhavy (Specialized Racing Xc) leads Nino Schurter (Scott Swisspower MTB Racing Team) leading Julien Absalon (BMC Mountainbike Racing Team) by 15s, Florian Vogel (Scott Swisspower MTB Racing Team) 16s, Martin Gujan (TX Active Bianchi) s.t.

 

Max Plaxton (Team Sho-Air/Cannondale) sitting 17th at 40s back, Geoff Kabush (Scott-3RoxRacing) 20th at 45s

 

 

Lap 2

Heading out onto the second lap and it is a group of 3 at the front:  Kulhavy, Absalon and Schurter

Ondrej Cink (Multivan Merida Biking Team) 4th at 15s with Marco Aurelio Fontana (Cannondale Factory Racing)Martin Gujan (TX Active Bianchi)  Florian Vogel (Scott Swisspower MTB Racing Team)

 

 

Schurter and Absalon have dropped Kulhavy as they ride over the rocks

 

Schurter is putting the pressure on Absalon ... opening a small gap through the feedzone

Kulhavy  3rd at 8s and Cink 4th at 12s,

Plaxton 15th at 45s back

Absalon leading with Schurter at 1s

Kulhavy 3rd at 10s with Cink on his wheel

Absalon leads Schurter across

José Hermida (Multivan Merida Biking Team) who won the 2010 World Champs on this course is now 3rd with teammate Conk on his wheel

Kulhavy 5th at 51s and Fontana is on his wheel

Plaxton 13th at 1:03

Kabush 21st at 2:01

 

Up the climb, Absalon has attacked and as they pass over the rocks, the gap is approaching 10s

 

Schurter has had a mechanical, and stops to get a wheel change, but the gap is getting wider all teh time

 

1/2 way point and the gap is  57s.  Cink now 3rd at 1:07, Hermida s.t.

Absalon heads out on the 3rd last lap and the gap to Schurter has widened to 1:17

Plaxton is up to 8th at 1:49, but there is a group of 5 at 1:50

Absalon leading with Hermida now into 2nd spot.  Schurter on his wheel and they are at 1:27 back
