The UCI has announced the quotas for the Road World Championships next month, based on UCI rankings in the WorldTour, Country and Continental Tours (depending upon category), as of August 15th.

The Individual Time Trial is straightforward, with each country eligible to enter four riders per category, of whom two may start. Under 23 men on Division One (UCI ProTeam) teams ride the Elite Time Trial (unless they are a Stagiaire).

The Team Time Trial, which was added last year, is for UCI ProTeams (mandatory participation), plus selected Pro Continental and Continental teams, based on rankings. The top-20 women's UCI teams by ranking as of August 15th are eligible to enter.

For the Elite men's road race, Canada is fifth in the Americas Tour continental ranking, allowing us to name five riders and start three. In the Under 23 Men, Canada will receive no starters. For Junior men, Canada gets to name ten and start five.

Kris Westwood, the High Performance Manager at Cycling Canada, has updated us on the situation regarding the Under 23 men:  "The rules state that each nation that appears on the Nations Cup ranking after the final event will be able to register two riders, with one to start. Since Canada is 16th in the Nations Cup ranking with 13 points, that means we should get a starter, but it won't be announced until Sept. 1.  We have requested clarification from the UCI to make sure our interpretation of the rule is correct, but I think we can bank on having one U23 man in the road race at Worlds."

For the Elite women's road race, Canada can name 12 riders and start six, while the Junior women's category allows every nation to name eight and start four.
