Track World Cup #3 - Mexico

In the first day of competition at the third round of the Track World Cup in Mexico the biggest news was the world record set set in the 1000 metre time trial by world champion Arnaud Tournant of France. Arnaud's time of 1:00.148 was 0.465 seconds faster than the previous record (set by Shane Kelly, Australia, in 1995 at the Columbia Worlds). Australian Ben Kersten was second (1:02.048 and Grzegorz Krejener (Pol) third in 1.02.297. Canadian Jim Fisher was 8th, with a time of 1:03.440 (just behind the Canadian record of 1:03.110, set by Curt Harnett).

In the women's Match Sprint, Canadians did not fare so well, with both Tanya Dubnicoff and Lori-Ann Muenzer being relegated to the ride-offs for 5th through 8th spots. Muenzer did, however, set the fastest time in the 200M Qualifier - 11.276 seconds. Doug Baron is also in the 5th to 8th ride-off for the men, and Lars Madsen was eliminated in the repechage.
